Summer is just around the corner and that means it’s almost BBQ time! Many of us may be trying to shed the extra padding gained during winter, which means it’s time to lighten up your meal.
How do you do that with your next BBQ?
Here are 5 tips to get you started.
1. Choose lean cuts of beef
It’s important to choose lean cuts of meat, and cut down on your fat intake. Think lean fillet steak, chicken and lean beef burgers. Your butcher can help you choose the best cut for your needs.
2. Increase your protein and get creative
By reducing the amount of calorie rich foods that you eat, and increasing your protein portions, you will feel fuller for longer, plus you will be consuming foods that help your weight loss goals. Get creative – think of making kebabs with your favourite meat and veg together.
3. Bulk up on salads... but hold the mayo
Salads and veg are great for weight loss, but sauces can add hidden calories to the mix. Where possible, skip the dressing where you can and focus on filling up with salad and lean protein.
4. Add veggies to your favourite meat
Why not add mushrooms to your steak? Simply roast them on the BBQ. Other veggies that go well with meat are eggplant and peppers. Spice it up with some finely chopped chilli or one of our famous marinades to add more flavour.
5. Grill your dessert
The BBQ is not just reserved for meat. End off your meal with some fruit on the BBQ! Try apples, peaches and pineapple for a taste sensation. Delicious!
